Hairdressing is a very rewarding career, and recession-proof too. Even when the economy suffers, it becomes even more important to keep groomed, especially when job insecurity increases. If you are thinking about choosing hairdressing as a profession, or perhaps you are after a career change, the full NVQ training process can be lengthy (up to three years) and quite expensive. And what if you decide that you don’t like working with hair after all?
“Our students have gone on to careers with major established salons in Hereford,” says founder Lindsey McKenzie. “The course is also a great way for students to start building their portfolio of photo evidence of all their work.”
A 12-week Community Learning course, Introduction to Hairdressing, costs only £295 per course, yet you will get 3 hours each week in classroom, learning all the basics of hairdressing: cutting, colouring, setting, perming, styling, hair-ups and haircare. As this is not an NVQ course, there is no formal exam, but you will be assessed on your practical competency in all the areas studied, and you will also have the option to work with real clients in the last two weeks of the course. “Our students have gone on to careers with major established salons in Hereford,” says founder Lindsey McKenzie. “The course is also a great way for students to start building their portfolio of photo evidence of all their work.”
Under the guidance of fully qualified and insured hairdresser Lindsey McKenzie, you will benefit from her years of experience in the trade – Lindsey has worked in a salon setting before going solo and starting her own business, AnyHair, Anywhere, a mobile Hair-at-Home service she has been running for a number of years. Not only will you learn the skills required to make it in the hairdressing trade, you will also pick up some business tips and customer care along the way.
The courses take place at Hinton Community Centre, Ross Road, in South Hereford and all equipment is provided.
You will need to attend for three hours, one evening per week for 12 weeks. Cost: £295 per course.
You can still sign up for the course starting on Wednesday, 16th September 2020, and finishing on 2nd December 2020. Next course starts in January 2021. Please contact Lindsey for more details.
On COVID-SAFETY MEASURES, Lindsey says:
“To reassure all of my students and to safeguard everyone, I will provide all students with face shields. Hand sanitiser will be available as they enter the training centre, and when they leave. All students will have temperature checks on arrival, and distance of 2 metres will be kept at all times.
I ask that students are honest in regards to their health status and any possible Covid symptoms in themselves and also of anyone living in the household, if showing symptoms such as fever, sore throat, dry cough etc. as seen in government literature and announcements.
I shall be wearing full PPE (mask, visor, apron, gloves) and hand sanitiser will be applied on my hands. Disposable gowns are used and all equipment is sterilised before and after each use.
Look forward to seeing you all very soon. Wishing you all the best of health!”
