High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT, combines short bursts of hard work with short periods of rest in between the bouts of intensity. The method is particularly useful for fat loss, but it’s challenging, so it’s important to increase the intensity gradually.
HIIT is among the most popular workouts because it delivers results fast. Not only will you be burning calories at a furious rate during the workout itself, but also for hours afterwards. This is often referred to as the ‘afterburn’, the result of increased post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) – your body burns more calories as it returns to normal, following a workout. A study published in the journal Sports Medicine Open shows that HIIT actually increases your metabolism post-exercise even more than jogging and resistance training.
The workouts at Sixth Sense Fitness are a varied and fun mix of powerful exercises, so you will never get bored, and the shorter duration makes them easier to fit into your schedule.
HIIT classes at Sixth Sense Fitness are 45 minute long and take place on Saturday 9.30am.
